AXES
What is it to be human? Finite, within the infinite? And how can we orient and relate ourselves in a reality our minds can never fully grasp? What is it to be a part of, whilst at the same time being separate?
Axes explores orientation as a fragile act of relation. Rather than presenting reality as something fixed, measurable, or fully visible, Axes asks how human perception emerges between seemingly opposing forces.
The ellipse, as its centerpiece, acts as a spatial and philosophical model of this perceived duality – a form inherently defined by two foci as opposed to a single center, creating stability through tension. What becomes visible is always shaped by what remains hidden. What stabilizes us also limits what we are able to see.
Through sculptural structures, sun data, textile surfaces, volcanic stone, moving light, and exploratory drawings, KiefferWoodtli present their translation of everlasting natural processes into physical/tactile encounters. Within this field, darkness is not absence. Light is not clarity alone. Order is not certainty. Each axis reveals another dependency. Each work becomes an instrument for sensing how orientation is drawn between forces, rather than given from a single point. As such, the exhibition does not offer nature as an image, but as a living field of relations – one in
which light, matter, time, and perception continuously shape both the world around us and our place within it.
