Negay Dgedee is a gibberish word created by AI image generators and Nog Sinal is the outcome when those same image generators try to say No Signal. My interest does not lie in AI itself, but the uncanny glitches it produces. Mutations are standard, creating unexpected ruptures with form and intention. It is a horror of confusion leaving us uncertain where lies / fiction blur with truth / reality.
The mindless chugging forward of technology makes me long for the nostalgia of my childhood of 1980’s Las Vegas. I have an aesthetic interest in the façade, both physical and phycological. Again, the truth / fiction slippage. Fabricated realities designed to entertain and distract from the dirt and pain found within the shadows, and masks we wear that do the same. My interest in these ruptures promotes a tension between objects, characters, spaces, and timelines that are almost recognizable but difficult to locate within our known history.
Methods and media overlap and confuse. What might have originated as an AI image becomes a puppet which gets incorporated into a video and then ends up as a sculpture. A fake life size set piece that was recreated from a practical miniature gets torn apart and made into paintings. Things are recycled, regurgitated, and repurposed to not only create a cohesive parallel world but to agitate and surprise intentions like a game of telephone.
