Taking the multifold liminality of copy shops as a starting point, from here on out, from here on in [Copy-Shop Ballade]
explores themes of copying and processes of transport and transformation through certain moments of copy shops.
Situated at an intersection (of the digital and the material, private and public, production and circulation), they occupy
a visible threshold. Places of transfer—files / objects / screens, papers / copies / originals—as well as spaces structured
by activity, suspense and waiting. As infrastructures of reproduction, they mediate the passage between image, text,
and object. They themselves have become markers of transition. Still present, they are signs of a vanishing
(technological) present, of a specific kind of spatial use, relationship, and reference. Through the further proliferation
of digitality, the accessibility of printers, and artificially assisted image and text production, the copy shop is gradually
losing its role, slowly withdrawing from the urban landscape, while still retaining its peculiar status as a site where
technologies, labour, and everyday life briefly intersect.
The exhibition brings together photos, image-objects, and sculptural works, developed from observations,
photographs, and collected materials, all related to copying, replication, transfer, and transformation. Through
reconstructed furniture, architectural fragments, and everyday details, it approaches copying, copy shops, replicas, and
copied places as both a physical environment and a conceptual apparatus, as a specific architectural setting and as
organisations in which technical, spatial, and social processes overlap.
Moving across a terrain pinned by and between documentary attention, reconstruction, and free interpretation, the
works touch on themes of production processes, the construction of realities, the instabilities of representation, and
the conditions under which copies, representations, and points of departure are shaped and understood.
